(2) BIG PICTURE SOURCES.

Karlin, Andrea, and Odette Bruneau. Child Abuse: Helping Children through Bibliotherapy.Mar.1985

PERMALINK:

This source falls into the bigger picture category, i believe this is because it adds a substance and contributes facts and another situation, where as my two previous sources focused on the theory and the overall history of bibliotherapy, this source concentrates on the situations of child abuse and how psychologists and therapists may use literature to show these victims a normal setting or relationships between family memebers. The literature is used to show to these children that abuse is not a normal setting and this may help them heal from their traumas.

Haeseler, Lisa Ann. “Biblio-Therapeutic Book Creations by Pre-Service Student Teachers: Helping Elementary School Children Cope.” Journal of Instructional Psychology, vol. 36, no. 2, June 2009, pp. 113–118.

This focuses on the impact children in the age group of beginning elementary school, this shows the positive impact literature may have on young children who may be going through the grieving process. The source focuses on four aspects of bibliotherapy, this article gives the children the tools to cope with either present stress or future stressful situations, giving them the emotional management tools to navigate their way in the world.

(4) NON-SCHOLARLY SOURCES

Ogden, Jenni. “Are You in Need of Bibliotherapy?” Can Reading Fiction Solve Your Deepest Psychological Problems?, 28 Feb. 2016, pp. 1–4.

Psychology today explains how the use of a good book may be more than just a good book, the literature may influence our lives and create a better envormonegt for the reader mentally, and may influence the reader to have a positive outlook on life. This obviously depends on the book the individual is reading but overall, psychology today states that a good book implements better mental health and a book may lead to a better life.

Lindberg, Sara. “Bibliotherapy: How Stories Can Help Guide the Therapeutic Process.” Using Books for Healing, 30 Jan. 2020.

I used this as an on topic source because it is a source that contributes an additional amount of information in terms of history wise, but as well this comes from a feature article allowing me to understand the process of bibliotherapy in an informal way. Stating the facts but also giving it a personal feeling gets the point across, while stating case studies to show the effects bibliotherapy has in a real life setting.

BIGGER PICTURE SOURCES.

Davies, Leah. “Using Bibliotherapy with Children.” Using Bibliotherapy with Children.

This article is an overview for teachers who may be new to bibliotherapy, it gives prominent examples and ways to use this sort of ‘therapy’ for children. While also providing a complete list of books that are useful in this setting. This is a bigger picture source because it may contribute with another one of my sources, creating substance for my article.

Crowley, Lucia Osborne. “Reading Between The Lines: How Bibliotherapy Helped Me Deal With Trauma.” 27 Sept. 2019, pp. 1–3.

This is a personal article, an individual recounting her personal experience she had that was traumatic and how one day she built up a wall so high she couldn’t get out, until she picked up a book that made something in her still. She found her way out with the use of bibliotherapy. This is a personal article so it can be used to show the positive effects of bibliotherapy, this gives a break from the facts and gives personal insight to the feature article,

CULTURAL ARTIFACTS.

A cultural artifact, for an on topic source will be world war one, this is because most studies and the beginning of bibliotherapy began around this time. This has the most recorded data and history to add to my feature article.

EXPERIENTIAL RESEARCH.

An on topic source for the experiential research, would be the collection of poems by leonard cohen. Look, i am a big Cohen fan, so i try and vouch for him anytime i possibly can, but this man created works of art with words. He has healed people with one small word, and I find that extraordinary. This is an experitiel research,  because I have read his works and listened to his music for as long as I can remember. His words create another world view, Cohen contributes to a therapy with simplicity. Which is why I think he contributes to the experiential concept of this bibliography.
